A Residence Shaped by the People Who Live Here

Cheun Fung was founded on a simple idea: that later life deserves the same warmth, variety and ease that one would hope for at any age.

How Cheun Fung Came to Be

Cheun Fung opened in the Mid-Levels in the early part of this decade, established by a small group of Hong Kong residents who had spent years working in social care and community development. Their concern was straightforward: most older adults in Hong Kong live either in family homes where space is scarce, or in facilities that tend toward the clinical. Neither setting offered much in the way of easy daily sociability — the kind that fills a day without anyone having to try very hard.

The name Cheun Fung — spring breeze — was chosen to suggest something light and seasonal, a quality of air rather than architecture. The founding team wanted the residence to feel like the beginning of a good day rather than the close of a busy life. That intention shaped every decision about the space: wide common areas, a garden with shaded seating, a studio with natural light, and groups kept small enough that faces become familiar within a week.

The address at 23 Robinson Road was selected partly for its position — mid-way along the Central–Mid-Levels corridor, easy for family to reach by escalator or bus — and partly for the building itself, which has the proportions of a private home rather than an institution. Rooms are furnished simply but with care, and residents are welcome to bring their own pieces if they prefer.

Since opening, Cheun Fung has grown slowly and deliberately. Capacity has been kept modest to allow staff to know residents by name and habit rather than by schedule. The programmes — Companion Circles, the Cultural and Recreation Studio, and the full Residence and Lifestyle Plan — have each developed in response to what residents have found useful, comfortable, or simply enjoyable. Nothing here was designed at a distance from the people it is meant to serve.

Our Mission

To offer older adults in Hong Kong a place where daily life is comfortable, social, and shaped by their own preferences — not by a timetable they had no part in writing.

Our Approach

Small groups, familiar faces, and programmes that adjust to what each person enjoys. Staff hold the space rather than fill it — the rhythm of each day belongs to the residents.

Our Values

Dignity, quietness, and genuine neighbourliness. We believe a good residence is one where people feel at home rather than managed — where their presence adds to the place rather than fitting a profile.

The People Behind Cheun Fung

NM

Ng Mei-lin

Family Liaison & Admissions

Mei-lin is usually the first person a family speaks with when they make an enquiry. She takes time with every conversation and never pushes anyone towards a decision before they are ready.

Our Standards & Commitments

The practices we hold ourselves to — not as certifications on a wall, but as habits that shape every day in the residence.

Staff Continuity

We keep turnover low and build rosters so that the same staff members are present on the same days each week. Residents recognise who is around them — and that matters for daily comfort.

Personal Privacy

Resident information is held securely and shared only with those directly involved in their care. Medical and personal details are never discussed in common areas or with third parties without consent.

Building Safety

The building meets Hong Kong Fire Services requirements, with regular inspections and clear evacuation procedures. Staff conduct safety drills and all corridors and exits are kept unobstructed.

Food Safety & Quality

Our kitchen follows Hong Kong Centre for Food Safety guidelines. Ingredients are sourced fresh daily where possible and menus are reviewed monthly with resident input.

Resident Feedback

We hold informal feedback conversations with residents each month and a more structured review each quarter. What we hear shapes what we change — and we tell residents what was done with their suggestions.

Social Welfare Registration

Cheun Fung operates in compliance with the Social Welfare Department of Hong Kong's requirements for residential care services. Records are kept current and available for inspection as required.

Senior Living in Mid-Levels, Hong Kong

Hong Kong's older adults face a particular set of circumstances. Housing is compact, family members are often working long hours, and the city moves at a pace that does not always allow for a relaxed social life once work falls away. Cheun Fung was designed with those circumstances in mind — a Mid-Levels address that puts residents close to the daily life of the city without requiring them to be part of its hurry.

As a non-medical lifestyle residence, Cheun Fung occupies a distinct position in Hong Kong's senior living landscape. The focus is on social wellbeing, cultural engagement and comfortable daily life rather than clinical care. For older adults who are physically independent but who benefit from companionship, activity and a well-managed domestic environment, the residence offers an arrangement that feels more like a shared home than a facility.

The Companion Circles draw on the familiar traditions of Cantonese social life — mahjong, tea, card games and conversation — and frame them as the natural centre of the week rather than a scheduled diversion. The Cultural and Recreation Studio connects residents with the arts and crafts that many grew up with but may have set aside. The Residence and Lifestyle Plan brings all of this together with housekeeping, laundry and full dining in one arrangement that removes the practical pressures that often weigh on daily life.

Families considering options for an older parent or relative are welcome to visit at any time during office hours. There is no presentation, no sales process and no minimum commitment required to walk through the residence and speak with the team. We are glad to answer questions at whatever pace suits the family, and equally glad to hear when Cheun Fung is not the right fit for a particular situation.
